Obituary of Louis R Trummel
Lou Trummel passed away peacefully at home on August 31, 2024. He celebrated his 95th birthday in May. Lou was born in Newark, NJ to parents Adolph and Ida (Davideidt), graduated from Hillside High School and went on to achieve his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering at Drexel Institute of Technology. He continued his graduate studies at Newark College of Engineering. He moved his family from Mountain Lakes to Roxiticus Road in Ralston before calling Stoney Hill Road in Brookside home in 1977.
Lou worked in the microwave electronics industry ending his career at General Optronics in Edison. After retirement he joined the security department at Morristown Medical Center and enjoyed meeting and greeting people at the front entrance for many years.
In 2018 Lou was honored at a dinner for his 50 years of volunteer service with the Ralston Engine Company #1. Lou was also proud to be a life member of the Mendham Township first aid squad. He enjoyed trips to Germany to visit his family and also to Ireland where he met Sharon’s Irish relatives. He was up to any adventure whether a river cruise or fishing and hiking in the Adirondacks, and in later years quiet vacations on Anna Maria Island, FL watching the water and wildlife.
Lou is survived by his wife of 42 years Sharon, daughters Susan LaRose, of Missoula, MT and Lisa D’Eramo-Trummel of Bethlehem, PA, step-children Stephanie Morton of Annandale, NJ and Eric Morton of Phoenix, AZ, and grandsons William LaRose of Los Angeles, CA and Jake Morton of Phoenix, AZ. He is predeceased by his first wife, Martha (Adams) and grandson Gregory D’Eramo.
As was fitting with his mechanical engineer training and temperament Lou liked his tool bench in order and his woodpile neat.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 16, from 4-7 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Road, Mendham. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 17, at 11 am at the Bailey Funeral Home. Interment will immediately follow at Hilltop Cemetery, Mendham.
