Obituary of Warren Scharin

Warren P. Scharin died peacefully at home in Brookside, NJ on December 29, 2011. He was 87. He was born in Newark and spend his childhood there. After WWII he lived in Whippany NJ until 1957 when he built his home is Brookside. He was a Veteran of WWII, serving from 1943 - 1946. He was in Patton's II Army and fought on the front lines of many battles including The Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and two Purple Hearts. He was a member of V.F.W. Post #3401. He and his brother Odie ran Olof Scharin & Son, an industrial painting business brought to American from Sweden by his grandfather. He worked for 43years before retiring in 1989. Mr. Scharin was a loving and patient father who always made time for his children. He was an incredible woodworker, mechanic, artist and bread baker. There was nothing he could not make or repair. He loved to read. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Lorraine Brandt Scharin in 1999. She was the love of his life. He will be greatly missed by his son Eric G. Scharin and wife Nikoli of San Mateo CA, two daughters, Laruen S. Floyd and her husband Jeffrey of Brookside, NJ, and Lisa Scharin of Charleston SC, and step-grandson Andrew M. Floyd. A memorial will be held in the spring. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Mendham Township First Aid Squad or Brookside Engine Co, #1.
