Obituary of Paul Robinson

Sgt Major, Paul E. Robinson, passed peacefully on July 17, 2024 in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.

Born to Lonas and Marion Robinson (nee Alderman) in Youngstown, Ohio, he grew up with his older brothers William and Richard, who predeceased him, in the Detroit, Michigan area. He and his brothers were exceptional athletes, Paul having played semi-pro football and hockey, coached junior high football for many years at St. Sebastian in Dearborn, Michigan, and taught cross country skiing in upper Michigan and Toledo, Ohio.

As a teenager, Paul decided to serve his country in the military and joined the Marine Corps where he met the love of his life, Evelyn Winey. At the same time that he was signing up, he saw her and told a friend, “I’m going to marry her.” He did, and they were married for 60 years. During his time as an active Marine, he became a three time Purple Heart recipient for serving in the Korean War. He then spent 30 years in the Marine Corps Reserve and earned the distinction of Sgt. Major.

After his military service, Paul became a branch manager for major insurance companies, and then pivoted to being a restauranteur in Indian River, Michigan for many years. He and Evelyn ran two beloved establishments before moving to New Jersey in 2002, to be with their daughter Vicki, her now deceased husband Buzz Moschetto, and to help raise their adored granddaughter Jamie. Paul is survived by Vicki and Jamie, along with many nieces and nephews in Michigan.

A service and burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC, where he will be laid to rest with his beloved wife Evelyn. In lieu of flowers, donations to The FATE Program would be greatly appreciated. Run by Give Merit, the Fate Program has partnered with Detroit superstars like Jared Goff and Jalen Rose to support the education of underserved youth in the Detroit area.
