Obituary of Joseph J Horzepa

Joseph J. Horzepa passed away peacefully at home on May 25, 2024. He was 88 years old.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, to parents Frank and Victoria (Skoczylas) Horzepa, Joe lived in Colts Neck before settling in Mendham, NJ, in 1974. He was a man of faith and a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Mendham.

Joe was an engineer starting his career at Bell Labs, and later at AT&T for 38 years. After retiring, he served as the Executive Director of the Power Sources Manufacturers Association (PSMA) for almost 30 years. He was very active in his church and community, teaching CCD to children at his parish, St. Joseph Church, was a Trustee for the Mendham Township Library, and was an assistant little league coach.

In his free time, Joseph was an avid fly fisherman and especially enjoyed fishing on the Green River in Utah. He and Judy traveled extensively throughout the US, including Alaska and Hawaii, and also visited a number of European countries, as well as Japan and Costa Rica. Their favorite trip was to Peru and Ecuador to visit Machu Pichu and the Galapagos Islands. Joe never met a stranger and made a personal connection with everyone he met even until his final days.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Judith Horzepa, son John (Kristin), daughters Mary Beth (Bryan) and Lisa (David), grandson Michael, and his extended family including his cousin Bernice Zach with whom he had an especially close relationship, and his niece Jeannie Foley and her family.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 30, from 4-7 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Road, Mendham. A Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, May 31, at 11 AM at St. Joseph Church, W. Main Street, Mendham. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph’s name may be made to the Mendham Township Library
