Obituary of George F Glew
George F. Glew passed away on April 21, 2024. He was 91 years old.
Born in Mount Vernon, NY, to parents Frank and Anna (Howe) Glew, George was raised in Maspeth, Queens, NY, but has been a longtime New Jersey resident, most recently residing in the Robert Cole Building in Chester, NJ.
George was a patriot and served his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was deployed as the Chester T. O’Brien 421 Destroyer escort, the first line of defense for the aircraft carriers in the fleet. George earned the Navy Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal during his time overseas, and was celebrated, along with the rest of the Tincan Soldiers, in many parades back home after his Honorable Discharge from the Navy. He was an avid fan of Neil Diamond and of fishing, but loved spending time with his family most.
George is survived by his children, Tim (Rosa Caceres) Glew, Therese (Robert) Lyons, Brian (Denise) Glew, and Bob (Denise) Glew, sister Barbara (George) Imperial, grandchildren Christine and David Glew, Connor, Christian and Cayleigh Glew, Riley Glew and Liana (Harrison) Cole, and Catherine Lyons, and great granddaughter Jasmina.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 26, at 2:30 PM at the Somerset Hills Memorial Park Chapel, 95 Mt Airy Rd, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920. Inurnment will take place immediately following the service in the Somerset Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, donations in George's memory may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or to the Tin Can Sailors.
