Sorry to hear of his passing. I never knew Richard in 'real' life, but met him through blogging, and read his blogs often as he seemed way more intelligent than the average blogger. I appreicated his sense of humor and knowledge.

I first met Richard when I was 4 years old. My parents and his parents knew each other through business and vacationed together during the winter in Florida. We reconnected years later and realized we both had a common interest in Broadway shows. For years we enjoyed trips into the city and each other’s company. What I liked most about Richard was his ability to explain anything to me in simple terms even if the subject was way beyond my comprehension. He was by far the most intelligent person I’ve met in my life and I feel honored to have been his friend.

Richard, I am forever grateful for you, as you were like an uncle and grandfather figure to me. I remember when we would go horseback riding on trails when I was a teen, and how funny you thought it was when your horse threw you off its back that one time on the trail (glad you were okay though). Or when you taught me how to drive in your Jeep (and took me to my driving test), as well as all the movies and shows that we watched, such as Scott Pilgrim, Roswell, Buffy, and all of the "off-beat" (as you liked to call them) indie films. There are so many other memories that I am glad to have, and you will be missed by me and many other people. -Amy P.S. don't worry, the outdoor cat is taken care of and loved
