I had the pleasure of knowing De for 45 years, I met her when I was 18 being a new friend of Anne-Marie’s. She asked me to call her De rather than Mrs A or Mrs W, it was hard for me to do so, I called her Schnooks and later in life sometimes De. Throughout the years at her home in Queens Village, NY we always had fun, told each other family stories and there were always lots of laughs too. I will never forget the aroma of her home at Christmas, she had this amazing potpurri she would purchase called the Scent of Christmas, she gifted me a bag and I started that annual tradition because of her. Throughout the years she made me a few personalized needle point pieces, in fact one sits on the fireplace mantle. De was always there to listen, talk, give guidance and joke around too. De was a hard working single Mom, when I first met her, the special relationship she shared with Anne-Marie was just that very special, they were so close, two peas in a pod. When Anne-Marie and Burgess married I was asked to do a few readings at the ceremony, that was an honor and I had De at my side while doing so, since she was the Matron of Honor.
De you were a beloved mother, a cherished friend, and a guiding light to all who knew you, thank you for the wisdom, the laughter, and the unconditional love. Your physical presence will be deeply missed, but your spirit and the impact you made on my life will forever endure.
Thank you for sharing Grandma Dwyers Corn bread recipe and your secret Cole slaw recipe too, I’ll think of you even more when ever I make them, I just won’t be sending you the photos anymore. Thank you for being my friend. Sending my condolences to De’s family.
Rest in Eternal Peace, Lady of Knock. I miss you dearly Schnooks.
