Obituary of Charles Benjamin Romano

Charles Benjamin Romano passed away on December 25, 2023. He was 77 years old.

Born in Newark, NJ, to parents Joseph and Helen (Wooster) Romano, Charlie attended West Side High School before beginning his career in construction with Carpenter’s Union Local 254. He lived in Newark, Union, Netcong, Chester, and Far Hills before settling in Mendham. He was a man of faith and a parishioner of St. Lawrence RC Church in Chester for many years. 

Charlie was a man of many talents and hobbies. He was very active and enjoyed coaching boxing, playing tennis, wrestling, and ice skating. His interests extended to the arts as well. He loved the theater and had a cameo in the Michael Douglas film Wall Street. 

Charlie is survived by his daughters, Gina Romano of Chapel Hill, NC, Lea (Todd) Dawkins of Prescott, AZ, son Nicholas (Vanessa, grandsons Landon and Luca) Romano of Boca Raton, FL, sister Joan Muniz of Whitehouse Station, NJ and daughter-in-law Shannon Romano of Jacksonville, FL. He is preceded in death by his son, Charles J. (Chuck), the late husband of Shannon. He will be missed dearly by all.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 4, from 1-4 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Road, Mendham. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Lawrence Church in Chester on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlie’s memory may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
