Obituary of Marilyn June Golankiewicz

It is with great sadness that the family of Marilyn June Golankiewicz announces her passing on December 12, 2023. She passed away peacefully at the age of 89 at her home in Basking Ridge, with her family by her side.

Marilyn was the daughter of the late John and Peggy Curran Hoffman. She was born and raised in Irvington, NJ, and over the years she resided in Martinsville, Whitehouse Station, and Basking Ridge. She graduated from St. Vincent’s Academy, took classes at a local junior college, and was a lifelong learner, continuing to take courses throughout her lifetime. She worked for the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company in Newark, NJ.

She met Edwin J. Golankiewicz, the love of her life, in 1953 at a local party. They married in 1956 and enjoyed 63 love-filled years of marriage. They started their family in 1960 in Irvington and moved in 1969 to a home they designed and built in Martinsville. After Ed retired, they lived many years in Whitehouse Township and moved to Basking Ridge in 2018. Over the years, Marilyn enjoyed traveling with her husband and her family to the shores of New Jersey, Florida and all over Europe.

First and foremost, Marilyn was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She instilled the value of family in her children and everyone who was close to her. Marilyn enjoyed precious time with her family, attending their activities, sporting events, and creative endeavors. Her life was exemplified by several lifelong friendships she developed and maintained over the years. She was kind, generous with a quick wit, and had great pride in her Scottish heritage and love of family. Marilyn enjoyed dancing, music, movies, memoirs, Broadway shows, traveling, and gathering with her family.

Marilyn was predeceased by Edwin in 2020 and is survived by her daughters Wendy Miller (husband, Jeff) and Lesley Hetherington (husband, Dallas). Marilyn will also be remembered by her six grandchildren, Jessica, Blake, Tyler, James, Amanda, and Shelby, and two great-grandchildren, Raymond and Christian, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family will hold a private service and is extremely grateful to all the people who cared for her at Fellowship Village. Please consider making a contribution in Marilyn’s honor to the charity of your choosing. For further information or to leave an online condolence message, visit www.baileyfuneral.com.
