Obituary of Richard Allen Johnson

Richard Allen Johnson passed away on November 16, 2023 following a short illness. He was 62 years old.

Born in Melrose Park, IL, to parents Erling and Susan (Gilkey) Johnson, Richard’s family lived in several states before settling in Morristown, New Jersey. He attended and graduated from Morristown High School and was a resident of Randolph for the last 25 years.

Richard loved his family and was a devoted husband and father who delighted in his new grandson. In his younger years he had some summer adventures as a traveling carny in the Midwest, though he spent most of his life in the carpet business where he became a master on the cutting and binding floor.   Richard was an avid sports fan hardly missing a game by his beloved New York Yankees and Washington Redskins. You could always find him working on a crossword puzzle and struggling for that one elusive word, though it never seemed that he was at a loss for words. 

Richard is predeceased by his parents Erling and Susan (Gilkey) Johnson, his brother Erling Neil and his daughter Melissa. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Robin (Hall) Johnson, his daughter Rachel (Tyler) Cozzo, son Ryan, and grandson Carter; his siblings Randall (Ann Birchard) Johnson, Robert (Lynne Koller) Johnson, and Amy Johnson; as well as many nieces and nephews.  

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 21, from 4-7 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd, Mendham NJ 07945. A service will take place on Wednesday, November 22, at 12 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home. Interment Hilltop Cemetery, Mendham. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s memory may be made to ARC of Morris County.
