Obituary of Mary Alice Horn

Mary Alice Horn passed away on July 12, 2023. She was 78 years old.

Born in New York, NY, to parents William and Mary (Gilmore) Karl, Mary Alice lived in several places in Asia, Europe, and Pennsylvania before settling in Mendham, NJ, 40 years ago. She was a woman of immense faith and was a parishioner, volunteer, and employee of St. Joseph Church in Mendham.

Mary Alice attended and graduated from Molloy College with a Bachelor’s in Education, and went on to obtain her Master’s in Education from Adelphi University. She taught for 25 years at St. Joseph Catholic School in Mendham and was very involved in her church, serving as a lector, a Eucharistic Minister, and with the Bethany Ministry. She was an integral part of and a familiar face to everyone at St. Joseph Church.

Mary Alice dedicated much of her time and attention to the things most important to her, which included her family and her community. She was a Trustee at Heath Village in Hackettstown and the President of the Board of Directors for many years for Mendham Area Senior Housing (MASH). Above all else, Mary Alice was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and her family was her greatest joy.

Mary Alice is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Norris Horn, son Bill Horn, brothers Bill and Tom Karl, sister Jane Karl, grandchildren Simone and Bosley Masterson-Horn, and many cousins.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 19, at 11 AM at St. Joseph Church, W. Main Street, Mendham. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary Alice’s memory may be made to Mendham Area Senior Housing, One Heritage Manor Drive, Mendham, NJ 07945.
