Obituary of Elizabeth "Betsy" M. Weingaertner

Elizabeth “Betsy” M. Weingaertner passed away on February 3, 2023. She was 96 years old.

Born in New York, NY, to parents Adolf and Kathrina (Jung) Hoelzl, Betsy was a longtime Mendham resident before moving to Basking Ridge in 2017. She was a woman of faith and a parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Mendham.

Betsy began playing the piano at just 7 years old, a talent and hobby that she carried through her whole life. She practiced every day and her cat Tori was her adoring fan, sitting on the piano bench with her as she played. She played for the residents of Glenlora, Merry Heart, and Sunrise, wowing the crowd at the Sunrise talent show in her later years as a resident. She was a loving and devoted caretaker, caring for her husband for many years at home during his battle with Parkinson’s. Betsy was an animal lover through and through, and a dedicated supporter of St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center.

When Betsy’s husband of 54 years, William, passed, she surrounded herself with her church community and was an involved volunteer at St. Joseph’s Church. She volunteered in the parish office, led the daily rosary group, attended daily Mass, she assisted with the altar linens, and even helped put together the church bulletins.

Betsy is predeceased by her husband William Weingaertner, and is survived by her son Robert Weingaertner, daughters Carol Weingaertner and Ellen (Edward) Nolan, and grandchildren Lauren and Bryan Nolan.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, February 7, from 3-7 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Road, Mendham. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 8, at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Church, W. Main Street, Mendham. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betsy’s memory may be made to St. Joseph Church, St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
