Obituary of Barbara S Robshaw

On January 26, 2023, Barbara Stauffer Robshaw passed away after a short illness surrounded by loved ones at Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge.  She was 90 years young.

Barbara was born March 19, 1932 in her Aunt Ginny’s house in Bernardsville, New Jersey to Elizabeth Andreorio and Harry Stauffer.  Throughout her childhood she lived in Bernardsville, Hacklebarney, Bedminster, Liberty Corner, and Morristown, graduating from Morristown High School in 1949.  Following high school, Barbara went on to work as an executive secretary at Morris County Savings Bank and the Morris School District as a secretary, at one point winning the New Jersey State Typing Competition for fastest typist. 

Barbara went on to raise her two children Cathy and Warren in Mendham Township while running Cathwar Kennel & dog training business sucessfully.  She was active within her community, serving on the Mendham Township Ladies Auxiliary Squad and making friends with many who met her.  Barbara was a lover of salt-water taffy and Frank Sinatra, but relocated to Melbourne, Florida in 1981 where she was very happy to be away from the snow and cold weather.  While in Florida, she continued to live her active lifestyle becoming an avid golfer and making many new friends.

In 2011, Barbara returned to Mendham to be closer to her family.  While here she enjoyed spending her time with those she met at the Mendham Area Senior Housing complex and was a constant presence at every Brookside July 4th and Mendham Labor Day parade.  Barbara’s greatest joy was spending time with her family that she leaves behind, always making us laugh, keeping us on our toes, and always going with the flow.  

Barbara was preceded in death by her mother Elizabeth “Mimi” Fourre, father Harry Stauffer, stepfather Ira Fourre, stepsistersPatricia Rosania and Shirley Marek, and beloved son Warren Robshaw.   She is survived by her loving daughter Cathy Steenbock (Robert) who advocated for Barbara’s well-being to the very last minute.  She is also survived by her granddaughters Jennifer Steenbock of Mendham and Samantha Rueter (James) of Succasunna, and her three great grandsons, Bennett, Nathan, and Mason Rueter.

Visitation will be held at Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Road, Mendham on Friday, February 3rd from 4-7pm.  Funeral Mass will be at 11am on Saturday, February 4th at St. Joseph Church Chapel, 8 West Main Street, Mendham.  Interment to follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, 95 Mt. Airy Road, Basking Ridge.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Barbara’s memory to the Mendham Borough First Aid Squad or the Mendham Area Senior Housing.
