Obituary of Lars Dennis Rooney

Lars Rooney passed away on December 31, 2022 at Legacy at Imperial Village in Richmond Virginia. He was 68 years old.

Born in Morristown, New Jersey, he lived most of his life in Mendham Township and Morris Plains before moving to Richmond, Virginia in 2022.

He was a member of the first graduating class of West Morris Mendham High School in 1972, where he was named Athlete of the Year. He was captain of the soccer and wrestling teams and named All-State and All-County (Morris) soccer player and an All-County (Morris) wrester. He played soccer for Hartwick College in Oneota, New York, where he received his bachelor’s degree. He later received a Master of Business Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University, in Madison, New Jersey. He spent his career in newspaper distribution.

He was predeceased by his parents, Leo and Alberta Rooney.

He is survived by his brother Curtis Rooney (Mittie), Washington, DC and his niece, Caitlin Rooney Schrimsher (Austin), Huntsville, Alabama, nephew Thomas Rooney, Washington, DC, and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 15 from 12:00pm-2:00pm at the Bailey Funeral Home in Mendham. The funeral mass will take place on Monday, January 16 at 10:30am at St. Joseph Church, Mendham, internment will follow at Hilltop Cemetery, Mendham.
