Obituary of Ruth Nicholas

On Saturday December 3, 2022 Mrs. Ruth Nicholas joined her beloved husband, Lyman Foster Nicholas, in the Kingdom of eternal peace. In celebration of her life, visitation will be held on Friday January 6, 2023 from 3 to 6pm at the Bailey Funeral Home in Mendham, NJ and a memorial service will be held on Sunday January 8, 2023 at the Morristown Presbyterian Church on the Green (Chapel) at 1pm.

Mrs. Nicholas was born in East Orange NJ and grew up in Ridgewood NJ. She graduated from Ridgewood High School and Lasell College (Boston MA). She was a member of the Morristown Presbyterian Church, a member of their “Circle Eleven” organization and a tutor through the Church's Sceep Program. Mrs. Nicholas was a member of the Women’s Association of Morristown Memorial Hospital for over 45 years and a volunteer for the “Meals On Wheels” Association. In addition to her Church and various volunteer efforts she was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother to her three children, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mrs. Nicholas was an avid gardener and bridge player. 

Survivors include her three children, David M. Nicholas and his wife Renee of Park City UT, Elizabeth L. Nicholas and her husband Kevin Walsh of Somerset County NJ, Barbara Sandelands and her husband Robert Sandelands of Morristown NJ, her six grandchildren - Andrew and Caroline Kling (wife of Ilya Vilnits), Lyndsay and Kirsten Nicholas and Reid and Holly Sandelands (wife of James Caldwell 4th) and her three great grandchildren - James Caldwell 5th, Skyler Caldwell and Alina Vilnits. 

Please join us to remember a life well lived by Ruth Marvin Nicholas. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Women’s Association for Morristown Medical Center, WAMMC, a partner of the Foundation for Morristown Medical Center.
