It feels strange in a way writing this as I haven't seen Gary in person in so many years, however I have honestly felt still very connected to him through the years even though we would only chat once or twice a year. He was that sort of guy who was always there with you; time did not create distance which is a very rare trait.
Gary and I (like many) got to know each other on track driving BMWs around Limerock and many other tracks in the northeast. He and I had a bit of competitive thing going since we were both equally fast (or slow??). When BMW Club Racing started we were truly nose to tail so many times, however what I truly remember of him the most was when he stepped up and helped me rebuild my M3 after a crash at Limerock in almost no time. This wasn't his business... he did this out of kindness, passion and friendship.
One other great memory. It was so rare back then (maybe still is) to see a hot girl come to a club event at a track. I still remember when Kara came to Limerock and I believe Bridgehampton I think in 1994. Gary was the MAN! We all wanted to 'instruct' in Kara's BMW... but he got the seat (lol).... for life. Lucky guy.
I know we all deserve a longer life, however I know Gary lived life; he didn't waste it. I will miss our little messages about races or cool cars. Will never forget.
Don
PS. I think Gary beat me at Pocono in this pic... that's all I will admit.

So sorry to hear of Gary's passing! I didn't get to see him in person very often since we live on opposite coasts, but I will always remember him as an extremely passionate E30 M3 lover.

I originally met Al and Gary in the BMWCCA through my dad in the mid/late-80s. I got to know Gary through driving events, and in fact he was one of my instructors in the early 90s... we had a lot of fun at tracks in NY and CT. I recall one time at the Glen in a very slow 320i he didn't have much to say other than "You need a mo-tor" and I swear at one point I may have put him to sleep.
I'll always remember the awesome cars he would bring to our club events, such as his 2002 and E30 M3 race cars, as well as the impressive lap times he'd get while driving them! I also really liked his sense of humor and hearing him laugh at the club events.
My deepest condolences to the entire Bossert family for this terrible loss.

Gary was always smiling and always fun. We enjoyed racing and against each other, but more so with each other, on the same team. It was Al who warmed my heart to them with his open and sharing personality. We became very close. We were all mildly jealous of Gary’s cars and yet we all always understood.
Gary was a gentleman. A good friend. I’m better for knowing him. We all are

My deepest condolences to the entire family. I’m so sadden to hear of Gary’s passing. I’ve known Gary back in the Camptown days with BMWs and working at UUC-JMK and Eurosport and seeing him at the Deutscher club talking cars. He knew I had a RC hobby shop I’m my basement and said “I have a model car for you to build- it’s to hard for me” I said Drop it off anytime I’ll build it” I wish he’d drop it off years ago so I could have built it for him to see it complete.
I remember all his E30 M3s and fell in love w them making me an owner of a few I had and have myself. He inspired me to go after my dream cars and I did.
Gary - Thank you for the talks and words of wisdom whenever we ran into each other.
You will truly be missed my Friend.

Dear Kara, Elise and Gary Jr,
Sam and I are heartbroken for your loss. Gary was a true gentleman, with a kind soul, soft spoken words only and all with a bigger than life smile. We feel lucky to have known him, and to have shared many home cooked dinners with him at our home, that he enjoyed so much. We will remember Gary, his smile and zest for life always. RIP.
Our deepest, heartfelt sympathies,
Caroline & Sam

I knew Gary as a gentlemen and kind soul. I was connected to him as part of the BMW CCA family and enjoyed many laughs at Oktoberfest and in connection with the E30 M3 Special Interest Group. Someone mentioned his dry wit and I too had been a willing victim and relished the occasions. I trust he’s sporting around Heaven in God’s Chariot.
My sincerest condolences to the family.

Kara, Elise and Gary Jr. There are no words to express the loss you must feel. We were lucky enough to know Gary as a friend; Darrell in particular; Oh the world of cars! Darrell will miss having a car companion who had a passion and a KNOWLEDGE of cars that very few people have. Gary was an incredible fighter, a man of courage and integrity and someone who didn't take life too seriously. His love of dogs pales in comparison to the love and pride he had in each of you. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Thank you for sharing him with us. Much love, Darrell and Tami Erwin

What a great man. Husband. Father. Son. Gary was a mentor because he walked his walk, unabashedly and humbly, and he taught us all something about how to live. I had the honor and privilege of Gary's friendship, and I always looked up to him. We especially enjoyed the thousands of laughs between us, even up to recent months. Gary was a private guy and didn't really talk about his medical challenges, even with his closer friends. Gary was going to live his best life, for his family, his friends, and himself ... and that was that. Those that were friends were fortunate enough to get to enjoy a few slices of life with Gary.
Bert, you and Mary Ann raised one helluva kid. Gary will be sorely missed here, and I'll look forward to seeing him in Heaven!

Gary will remain a legend in the BMW CCA community for his excellent taste and generous, adventurous participation.
Any conversation with him about BMW Motorsport and The Nurburgring was an enthusiast's delight. These specific interests brought together a remarkable collection of people who will miss him, but also keep his memory alive.
Sincere condolences to the Bossert family.

Oh so sad. I had not seen Gary for many years until O’Fest ‘19 in Spartanburg, but then we spent most of the time together during the event. Gary was such a great man, a really skilled driver and a wonderful friend with an infectious sense of humor. Times with Gary were always good times. We’ll miss you bro!

Dear Kara, Al and Mary Ann,
It seems only yesterday that I spoke with Gary in the hospital and we exchanged emails about bringing his BMW race car out once more. We shared a favorite adventure in racing together at Nelson Ledges. We will miss him greatly as will the BMW community he helped to grow and he enjoyed. Godspeed Gary!
