When Mary was teaching St. Joe's, I was the Director of Religious Education. We met in 2008. Like everyone else has mentioned, Mary's smile was the first thing you noticed about her. She always had the most pleasant smile for you. I was so sad to hear of her passing. I can still picture where she and her husband sat at St. Joseph Church for Mass. What a wonderful lady. She will be greatly missed. Annette Tracy

My Dear Bruce, Michael, MaryAnne, David and family
It brings great sadness to learn that Mary has passed away. She was a life long friend. She has given our family so many fun memories. She was one of the best in everything she did., We are thinking of the Artuso family.
Sending you all our love!

I will always remember Mrs. Artuso from our rides to CCD. Every week my sister and I got a ride in her car. She would sometimes make a right out of St. Joes so, she didn't have to make the dreaded left and we'd have an adventure. She also made all of us in her class feel really special and we were a prince or princess for a class. She made everything fun and imparted a lot of her faith to all her students. She always had a smile on her face when I saw her after I moved back to the area after college. She will be missed by everyone!

I met Mary and Bruce many many years ago. David her third child was still in high school Mike and Maryanne eitger in college or off working I think. They lived in Mendham and they hired me to clean their home.there and then when they settled in Chester. I cleaned for them up until Covid hit and we all stayed home. Going to Mary's was one of the special days for me. She would always tell me about her children at school as if they were her own. And then came her grandchildren. Always such living stories if all. Mary had a heart of gold for everyone. I would get there and we would sit and chat Abit before I got started. I missed going when Covid hit and missed all get great stories and that great sence if humor and smile.
As you were always called Miss Mary you will be missed.

My heart breaks to hear of the passing of Mrs. Mary. In 2006, every day before starting class she made us recite, “Good, better, best. Never let it rest ‘til your good is your better, and your better is your best.” Now, so many years later, my students recite the same. Mrs. Mary had an absolute heart of gold. I am so lucky to have known her and to have learned so much from her. May she rest in peace ❤️

Mary was one of a kind. There will be no replacement for her in the lives of so many friends, I will remember fondly not only her smile but her hearty laugh and her ability to make others laugh with her stories, but she was serious about her faith and commitment to the weekly celebration of the Eucharist. No easy excuses for a miss. Her devotion to Bruce and family was extraordinary and she knew what each grandchild needed. We will miss you, Mrs. Mary.

So many memories of Mrs. Mary...sneaking a cigarette outside the Chapel (when we were still smoking), Mary sharing stories of her mornings with her math students, hearing her hearty laugh, Mary's beautiful, always-coordinated outfits, her stories of her beloved grandchildren....and so many other thoughts come to mind. She was so kind, cheerful and w8se....there was only one Miss Sullivan-Artuso, and we were so blessed to have known and loved her!
Rest in peace, Mary...you've so earned your place in Heaven!

I was a 1st Grade aide at St. Joe's for a number of years and Mary became a wonderful friend. She was kind and sweet and so funny. I loved hearing her many stories and she, along with all the many other awesome teachers, always made me feel welcomed. Thank you Mary! Miss you already...your smile and especially that great "BIG" voice we all came to love. Rest in Peace

Farewell to our dearest Mary,
Mary, you are one of the bravest women I have ever known. Through all difficulties, you firmly believed God was by your side. You never lost your smile. Oh how I will miss that smile!!
The Irish Colleen , a proud Sullivan that was the apple of her Father’s eye. They loved each other so dearly and had a special bond. Oh, the stories she would tell of growing up in Sarnia, living Regina, my sides still ache from laughing.
First time Mary moved to Mendham she didn’t drive yet and hopped on the school bus to and from home with the school kids. The next time they came to the area they settled in Chester and Mary got her driver’s license and always had a very cool car. It was the “left turns” that gave her a little trouble She was hired to teach at St Joseph School. St Joseph School was very lucky.
Mary really did LOVE all her students( she called them her babies). She was famous for her “beanie babies” She really did love each and everyone of them. Running to and from her classroom with those little ones following right behind her. And when she broke her ankle she put Christmas light on her crutches. Oh how the kids loved that . Forr the past 15-20 Mary has been friended by these same students and even their parents on Facebook. You all have given her such joy letting her be apart of your life and it’s ups and downs and keeping her in the loop. Mary looked forward to that everyday.
I remember all the great stories of her wonderful children, Maryann, Michael, and Brian. She was so proud of you three and devoted to you. She was a wonderful mother and inspiring role model. You three have so good to her in return.
But here lies her deepest love, her grandchildren. Brian first grandchild, the light of he life, a wonderful smart brave soldier. Lisa a beautiful light in her life, inside and out) granddaughter who as Mary says is an amazing teacher just like Nana. David oh her David the third light of her life.! Dave’s the handsome amazing athlete with a Nana twinkle in his eyes. And her icing on the cake John Michael, the fourth light of her life, brilliant, beautiful voice, and love for God just like his Nana. You 4 were the shinning stars she loved so deeply. And the true beauty was that you 4 returned that love to her in spades. I shall miss all those continuing stories and seeing you once in a while.
St Joseph School was a special place for us as teachers and friends. We shared a bond in and outside of school. Although we were retired we continued to have lunch together. Such a huge empty chair and glass of Chardonnay . Thank you Mary Sullivan Artuso for your friendship, unconditional love, and hilarious fun times. So glad we rode together with the top down and the wind in our faces.
Heaven is rejoicing in your coming
We now will rejoice in your peace
We will miss you
God Bless you Mary Sullivan
Kathy
