Obituary of Matilda B Beavers
Matilda B. Beavers passed away on April 30, 2021. She was 90 years old.
Born in Chester, NJ, to parents Walter and Linnet (Gardner) Barkman, Matilda attended and graduated from Roxbury High School in 1947 and went on to work as the Secretary and Bookkeeper for Gunther Motors in Mendham.
Matilda and her husband built their home in Mendham from the ground up and lived on Hillcrest Avenue for more than 50 years. She was active in her community and joined the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as the Worthy Matron for the both the Chester Chapter of Chester, NJ, and the Starlight Chapter of Musconetcong, NJ. Matilda also served as the Grand Officer District Deputy of the Grand Chapter for New Jersey. In her later years, Matilda and her husband moved to South Jersey and finally settled in Cedar Crest in Pompton Plains, NJ, to enjoy their final years together.
Matilda leaves behind her loving husband of 72 years, Fred Beavers, her daughter Jody (Dave) Hoffman, her granddaughter Leigh Ann Hoffman, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 5, at 1 PM at Hilltop Cemetery, 18 Hilltop Rd, Mendham, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in Matilda’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
