Jervis Truitt Cunningham of Mendham, and a long-time Chatham Borough resident, passed away peacefully January 14th at home after a short illness where he was surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was 88 years old.
Jerry was blessed to have celebrated his 62nd wedding anniversary last summer to Isabelle Scherer Cunningham. The two share a love which is aspired to by all of their descendants. Together they raised four sons (David, John, Andrew and Will) and cherish their four grandchildren (Aurora, Cassidy, Quin and Kelsey) and two loving daughters-in-law (Jane and Kristina).
Jerry was born to Madeleine and Willard Cunningham and grew up in St Louis, MO and Wilmette, IL. He is predeceased by his younger brother Jim. Jerry graduated from New Trier HS in Winnetka, IL and then Yale University in 1954, traveled extensively and spent two years in the USAF rising to the rank of 2nd lieutenant. Upon release from military service, he joined General Electric’s renowned business management training program. He worked in Human Resources for GE and then had a long career with AIRCO/BOC in NYC/North Jersey. Upon retirement he was engaged as a consultant for the Linde Company in the late 90’s.
Jerry believed in gratitude: he was grateful for the life he was able to live and the family and people who surrounded him. He gave back through community service including two terms as a Chatham Borough Councilman, time on the Chatham Republican Committee, the Kiwanis Club of the Chatham’s and as an active member of the Chatham United Methodist Church for over 50 years.
There is currently no memorial service planned. A gift can be made in Jerry’s memory to the:
