Obituary of Carolyn Sutton

Carolyn H. Sutton, 97, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2021.

Born in Mendham, NJ, to parents Eli Harris and Miriam (Baldwin) Hulbert. Carolyn was a lifelong resident of Brookside until her move to Florham Park, NJ, in 2016.  She attended and graduated from Morristown High school and a BA from Drew University.  Carolyn was very proud to be in the first class of women that graduated from Drew.

Carolyn was a dedicated parishioner of the now defunct Washington Valley Chapel and was very involved in her church and community. She was a member of the Women’s Missionary Alliance and held the position of President for a number of years.  For many years she worked in the Mendham Township school district as well as a dental receptionist for Dr.  Decker in Morristown and Dr. John Surdi in Bernardsville.  

In her free time Carolyn loved to read, garden, bake and sit on the porch with her dog watching the birds and butterflies.

Carolyn is predeceased by her beloved husband of 40 years, Alvah Walter Sutton, and her sister, Ruth Hubert. She is lovingly survived by son Walter Sutton and his wife Kathleen Daly of Morristown, NJ, and son James Sutton of Hillsborough, NJ.

Carolyn will be laid to rest at Hilltop Cemetery in Mendham with her dear husband in a private family ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carolyn’s memory may be made to The Seeing Eye Inc, and/or Long Hill Chapel
