Obituary of Dr. Chang Hoon Lee
Dr. Chang Hoon Lee passed away surrounded by his loving family on November 30, 2020. He was 89 years old.
Born in Gang Won, Korea, to parents Young Joon and Sung Soon (Oh) Lee, on September 6, 1931, Having attended Kyung Ki High School and Yonsei University’s Severance Medical School and serving as resident and junior faculty attending, Chang came to America in 1968, living in Cranford, Mountainside, and Watchung, before settling in Livingston, NJ. Coming from a family of physicians, he practiced medicine as a General Surgeon at the Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield, NJ, for more than 35 years before his retirement in 2008.
Chang was a mentor to many. He educated medical students, residents, and young physicians alike throughout his career. He was an exuberant and elegant man admired for his skill as a surgeon and comforting warm bedside manner by not only his patients but by his colleagues as well. Chang was an avid golfer and a member of the Twin Brooks Country Club in Watchung. He played the clarinet and enjoyed listening to and attending classical music concerts in New York City and every concert his daughter in law, pianist Min Kwon, played. He loved to entertain, travel and experience new places especially in the company of friends. He was a great colleague, friend, son, father, grandfather and husband. Above all else, he cherished family.
Chang is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Chu Sil (Chung) Lee, his sons Dr. Leonard (Min Kwon) Lee, Dr. Harrison Lee, youngest brother Chang Jo Lee, and 5 grandchildren - Cameron, Travis, and Dylan (Harrison); Lauren and Sophie (Leonard). A private service was held for the family at Bailey Funeral Home in Mendham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local food bank in Loving memory of Dr. Lee.
