Obituary of John R. Meszar
John R. Meszar passed away on April 8, 2020 at Morristown Medical Center after a long battle with cancer. Born in Morristown to John and Marion (Moro) Meszar, he grew up in Basking Ridge and lived all his life there.
He graduated from Pingry and from New Jersey Institute of Technology with an engineering degree. He served in the Army and was stationed at a missile base in N.Y. He worked for the Bell System in West St. ny and then in Whippany NJ which later changed to AT&T Bell Labs in Parsippany. After it became Lucent Technologies he worked in Texas for several years.
He was an avid bridge player and played in many tournaments with his brother-in-law Bill Ledder. He was also an avid model railroader and collected coins and stamps and enjoyed watching football and Nascar, and was very interested in History and statistics. He was also interested in ancestry as his parents came from Hungary.
He traveled to many places with his family and to Europe with his wife. John is predeceased by his parents, his sister Marguerite Ledder, and brother John Alexander. He is survived by his loving wife Pam of 52 years, his son Mark of Basking Ridge, his daughter Holly Griffin, of Scotch Plains, and son-in-law John and grandson, John Patrick, whom he adored, and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory can be made to St. Huberts animal shelter, in Morristown, NJ. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
