Anne Holt

Obituary of Anne B Holt

Anne Brown Holt, 90, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2020 at her home in Mendham, New Jersey.  She was born August 19, 1929, to Fletcher and Katherine (Tew) Brown in Raleigh, North Carolina, the oldest of three children.

Anne graduated from Peace and Meredith Colleges and taught elementary school until she met and married Vernon Holt in 1956.  They lived in Lafayette, Indiana; Whippany, New Jersey; Raleigh, North Carolina, and Allentown, Pennsylvania before settling down in Mendham in 1972.

Anne volunteered at the Mountain View Middle School library and the Mendham Borough Public Library, where she eventually was employed as the IT specialist, assisting library patrons for over 20 years.  She also volunteered for community service programs including The League of Women Voters, National Organization for Women, and the Mendham Garden Club.  She loved reading, watching baseball, gardening, sewing, playing cards, computer games and solving crossword puzzles.

A constant, loving presence to her family, Anne demonstrated true southern hospitality, charm and warmth throughout her life.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Vernon Holt; her four children David Holt and his wife Laurie, Brian Holt, Alan Holt and his wife Joan, and Diane Holt; her four grandchildren Ben, Julia, Henry and Sam; and her two sisters Jean Thompson and her husband Russ, and Joan Brown and her husband John.

Her family would like to thank the Visiting Nurse Association aides, nurses, doctors and others who helped care for Anne during her long journey with Alzheimer’s disease.

Anne was the heart and soul of her family.  Words cannot express how much she will be missed.
