Obituary of George Van Der Sluys

George Van Der Sluys passed away peacefully on February 25, 2020. He was 71 years old.

Born and raised in Paterson and Elmwood Park, NJ, to parents John and Vera (nee Vliet) Van Der Sluys, George graduated from Passaic County Technical Institute, before attending RCA Technical Institute in New York, NY. He worked for Digital Equipment Corporation as a District Manager.  He lived in Mount Olive, Morristown, and Lebanon before settling in Bedminster in 2010.

George then returned to school and attended Bergen County Community College to become a Dental Hygienist, and he worked for both Dr. Vita in Clifton and Dr. Chonowski in Morristown for over 25 years.

George loved fine wine, theater and travel. He was very active and enjoyed fishing with his brother as well as time at the beach with his family. He loved to ski and ice skate and was also an avid gardener.

George is predeceased by his loving wife of 40 years, the late Judith C. (Colwell) Van Der Sluys. He is survived by his daughter Cynthia C. Weil and her husband Bruce of Montville, NJ, son Eric George Van Der Sluys and his wife Debi of Bound Brook, NJ, brother Gary Niedjieicki and his wife Christine of  Flanders, NJ, sister Beverly Walsh of Newtown, PA, nieces Alyssa and Courtney, nephews Michael and Todd ( deceased ). As well as his loving grandchildren Christopher, Alexis, Eric, Lauren, and Ethan.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 8, from 11 am to 1 pm at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd, Mendham, NJ. A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 1 pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s memory may be made to the ASPCA, PO Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090-6929.
