Suzanne Ahlers

Obituary of Suzanne Ahlers

Suzanne Ahlers passed away at her home on January 5, 2020 after a long battle with brain cancer. She was 45 years old. Born in Summit, NJ, to parents Charles and Rose (nee Thornton) Driscoll, she grew up in the Meyersville section of Long Hill Township before moving to Bedminster in 2009. She graduated from West Chester University in 1997 with a degree in education and went on to receive her master’s degree from Montclair State University. Suzy began her career in education as an elementary special education teacher in Summit before spending 18 years teaching for the Bedminster School District. She met the love of her life, Walter Ahlers in 2011. They were married in 2013 and lived in Flanders until settling in Budd Lake in 2019 with their 3 year old son Timothy Paul. Suzy’s favorite pastimes included traveling, cooking, baking, and enjoying good food and wine. What she enjoyed most was being close to her family and friends. She always considered becoming a mother her greatest accomplishment. She was a strong woman that was not afraid to face a challenge. Whether it was going on a zip line adventure, parasailing, or running a half marathon, she always embraced the challenge and met it head on. She faced her illness the same way. Suzy is survived by her husband of 7 years, Walter Ahlers III, son Timothy Paul Ahlers, parents Charles and Rose Driscoll, brothers Peter and Terry Driscoll of Bridgewater, sisters Cindy Lewis of New Bern, NC, Patti Frederick of Morris Twp, NJ, and Debbie Matthews of Concord, NC, sister-in-law Nancy Christian of Budd Lake, NJ, and parents-in-law Lois and Walt Ahlers of Hackettstown, and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 10, from 4-7 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home 8 Hilltop Rd, Mendham NJ 07945. A service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, January 11 at 11 AM, followed immediately by a burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Suzy’s name can be made to Jinny’s Rainbow Comfort Quilts, c/o Ann Lowe, 39 Mill Pond Road, New Providence, NJ 07974 (checks made payable to Overlook Hospital Foundation, Memo: Jinny’s Rainbow).
