Obituary of Adeline Thorsen
Adeline Doris Thorsen passed away on December 9, 2019. She was 91 years old.
Born in Concord, GA, to parents Jesse Lee and Tessie (nee King) Marshall, Adeline lived in Georgia until the age of 13when she moved with her family to Newark, NJ. It was there that she met Anders Haave Thorsen, whom she married inMarch of 1947. Adeline and Anders settled and raised their family in the small Norwegian community of Lake Telemark, NJ. The loving couple spent over 40 years in the NY/NJ area before retiring to Concord, GA, where they built a house and lived many happy years together until Anders’ passing in 1998. In 2006, Adeline moved back north and settled “down the shore” in Waretown, NJ. She was a proud parishioner of Friendship Presbyterian Church in Concord, GA, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Telemark, NJ, and Presbyterian Wright Memorial in Waretown, NJ
Adeline spent many hours volunteering with Southern Ocean County Hospital in NJ as she did in Griffin, GA, at WellStar Spalding Regional Hospital. She particularly loved to travel, and had the opportunity to visit Israel, Hawaii, Greece and Italy overthe years. In retirement, she and Anders drove their motorhome cross country from Georgia to Alaska and back again, sharing many special moments and rounds of golf with friends and family along the way.
Adeline is predeceased by her loving husband of 52 years, the late Anders Haave Thorsen, brothers George and Jesse Lee Marshall, sisters Tessie Kizis, Sarah Smith, Cornelia Enyart, and Mary Neri. She is survived by daughter Jane (Joseph) Forgione,sons Ronald (Rena) Thorsen, and Peter (Marie) Castelli, grandchildren Ronald, Megan, Danielle, Tiffani, Marisa, Denise, Karen, Christine, Annie, Joseph, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 12, from 4-5 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd, Mendham NJ 07945. A memorial service will immediately follow at 5 PM. Burial will take place at a later date at the Friendship Presbyterian Cemetery in Concord, GA.
