Obituary of William J Debuvitz
William Debuvitz passed away at Morristown Medical Center on September 5, 2019. He was 75 years old.
Born in Buffalo, NY, to parents Joseph and Isabel (nee Ross) Debuvitz, he lived in Bernardsville, NJ before moving to Mendham over 25 years ago.
He received his Bachelor of Science in Physics from Le Moyne College, Syracu and went on to receive two Masters Degrees in Physics and Math from Rutgers in 1968 and 1973.
William was an Associate Professor in Physics at Middlesex County College for 31years before retiring in 2000. He also spent time mentoring students in physics at Rutgers University, while tutoring neighborhood kids in his free time. He was very active in the Mendham Community, and was a member of the Shade Tree Commission. For 45 years, he volunteered his time with Recording for the Blind in Princeton. He also enjoyed fiction writing and model railroads.
William is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Joan Crawford Debuvitz, brothers Joseph Debuvitz of FL and Edward Debuvitz of NM, sisters-in-law Eileen (Salvatore) Minichini, and Colleen (Fernando) Vargas, as well as many nieces and nephews. He will be missed dearly by all.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 9th from 7-9 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd, Mendham NJ 07945. A Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, September 10, at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Church, W. Main St, Mendham NJ 07945. In lieu of flowers, donations in William’s name can be made to the Rutgers Physics and Astronomy Department, Robert A Bartynski Professor & Chair, Rutgers, The State University of NJ, 136 Frelinghuysen Road, Piscataway, NJ 08854-8019.
