Dear Ala,
Please accept my most heartfelt condolences for the passing of your Mother. We didn’t see each other for a long time but she was never far from my thoughts and I am so grateful that circumstances allowed me to visit her last Christmas. We shared the same birth month, within days of each other and I always felt like that gave us a little bond that never went away. She was a warm, welcoming and loving person with such a positive attitude. I remember when we went together to visit George in the care home and she had made perogi for him because he only liked hers. She gave so much and I just hope that she found her happiness here on Earth.
Thank you Aunt Lidia for never forgetting my Birthday, thank you for just never forgetting me.
Much love and hugs,
Paula

Remembering Lidzia
Lidia Cionka-Kawecka was my neighbour, dear childhood friend and playmate during our preschool years on Mickiewicza Street in Lubaczow.
I remember well our games on the verandah of my parents’ house and in the large sunny kitchen of Lidzia’s new home after her family moved to our city where her father had been appointed a judge at the Court.
While I remember clearly our dolls and picture books, one incident remains especially clear in my mind: while our parents were out, Lidzia brought a new colorful picture book to our house and we looked at the pictures with much pleasure, but my brother Radoslav was annoyed that we did not include him in this activity. He snatched the book out of our hands and threw it into a pail of water, damaging it. Lidzia’s mom scolded her, but I remember taking the blame and apologizing to her mother for our misbehaviour and for damaging a very pretty book.
My brother remembers too, how, while I was also out, he played “hairdresser ” with Lidzia and how they, getting hold of scissors, shortened the fringes of a new table cloth in our dining room. Similar memories of Lidzia and our children’s games remain clearly even now.
Many years later Lidia, her husband Yurek Kawecki, a brilliant engineer, and their sweet daughter Alicia, arrived in Montreal, along with Lidia’s parents. Radoslav and I were caught up in the Kawecki’s vibrant social life, our younger brother, Ireneus, played with Alicia, while our parents were happy to reestablish their old friendship.
When the Kawecki family moved to Massachusetts, opportunities to meet became less frequent, but continued when they would visit their parents in Montreal, during our academic trips to the Boston area, and most recently, contact by telephone.
Now Ala, you remain our precious link to memories of your Mother and the whole family.
With fond memories and in deepest sympathy,
Luba, Radoslav and Ireneus

Lidia was my long-time friend. Met her through another friend that worked at Addison Wesley, Aurora Rodrigo. Lidia always kept in touch and kept up with what was going on in her friends lives. A genuine and loving friend. I will miss her always.

I was fortunate to meet Lidia at Addison-Wesley many years ago and to have
kept up our friendship all this time. What a wonderful woman and friend. She leaves an empty spot in many people's hearts, I am sure.

Dear Alicja,
She was very kind and considerate, always sent me lovely Bday and Xmas cards.
I enjoyed learning about her adventures moving around the world during and after WW2.
She loved my Snowball-Bichon Frise and they made fuss over each other!
She was a big animal fan.
I will remember and miss Lidia.
Love, Diane

She’s in a better place right now
Than she’s ever been before;
All pain is gone; she’s now at rest;
Nothing troubles her anymore.
It’s we who feel the burden of
Our sadness and our grief;.
We have to cry, to mourn our loss,
Before we get relief.
We know we’ll reconnect with her
At the end of each life’s road;
We’ll see her cherished face again
When we release our earthly load
