I started taking Tap Dancing lessons at Dorothy's studio in Mendham in the late 1980s. Being new to Tap, I didn't know what to expect, but all my fears were gone after meeting Dorothy. No only was she an amazing dancer and teacher, but her extraordinary people skills, her kindness, and above all her sense of fun, made everyone who met her relax. I had taken many dance classes before, but none had been as enjoyable as Dorothy's classes!
I salute a very special teacher, and share in the loss of a truly unique person.

Dottie started the Miss Steppers, a senior dance group, at Ridge Oak. Dottie took the senior group to Care Centers to perform. The favorite number was Polka Dot Bikini. It always made the residents laugh. When we retired the dance group. Dottie joined the hand bell group at Ridge Oak, once again performing with our seniors at Care Centers. We love her. Her spirit will live on....thank you Dottie for being part of the Ridge Oak Community....We will miss you

Dear Ernie, Laurie, Kathy, Rick and, families:
As Laurie's sister-in-law (Lori) and her brother-in-law (Mark), we are deeply saddened at the sudden loss of such a vibrant and active lady. We just were with Dottie and Ernie at Laurie and Jim's home in Atlanta for their granddaughter's (Allie) high school graduation. What a lovely couple and how excited the Kirkegaard family was to have them in Atlanta to celebrate with family and friends. It was a lovely weekend.
We are hurting right along with you and praying that God's strength will help guide you through this difficult time. You have a wonderful family and have been blessed to have had a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who was very talented, and so giving to her family, friends, and community. She will be missed by so many and has left a beautiful legacy that is an inspiration to all of us.
With love and prayers for all of you,
Mark and Lori (Kirkegaard) Williams

Dear Ernie, Laurie, Kathleen, and Rick,
My thoughts and prayers are with you as you navigate this most difficult time. As neighbors on our beloved Florie Farm Road in Mendham, I fondly remember your mom as the sweetest and kindest lady who always had her vivacious smile for everyone. She was a most talented dance teacher; her students all loved her as she nurtured each of them with love and caring. Her yearly dance recitals were an event to treasure and her personal performance at the end of each was so looked forward to by all in attendance. Each Christmas, Dottie gathered many of us to go caroling in our neighborhood and we loved her enthusiasm for that. She was truly special. May God hold you in the palm of His hand and give you the strength to carry on in her absence. My deepest sympathy and condolences,
Faye Boyle

I am the son of the youngest brother of Dottie's mother, which makes me Dottie's first cousin. I didn't know her well and am more than fifteen years younger, but she was an inspiration to me. Such a radiant and warm smile and personality. She was always very kind as well. My deepest sympathy to Ernie and her children. Love,

As High School Seniors who had known Dorothy for more than 10 years as a their mentor, instructor and inspiration in dance, Steph and Ani asked Dorothy to pose with them after their last recital on June 2nd. Dorothy was so happy and proud that day (and for all the years Ani and Steph had known her). The photo conveys so much of what we all loved about her...her grace, kindness, caring, positive perspective, and utter loveliness...attributes that others can only try to possess. We wish Dorothy eternal peace and her family and community comfort and strength.

I will always remember Dottie in our women's exercise class. She love to hand out the hats and play the music from "Chicago" for those 5 minutes we were accomplished dancers on the stage! How fun!
She also brought her enthusiasm to her classes with the younger students. My daughter Elise was in her classes since age 3. When Elise continued her dance studies in NY, the choreographers were impressed with her dedication and discipline. This dedication and discilpline was taught by Dorothy.
Thank you Dorothy for sharing your love of dance to our community! You will be missed and your spirit will live forever in all your dance students, young and old!

I danced with Dorothy for many years when I was a little girl. I'm now in my 30s and a couple of years ago we ran into each other in the Kings parking lot. I, of course, recognized her instantly! She gave me her warm smile and said hello and to my total surprise, she remembered me as well. (Looking back I suppose I'm not actually that surprised - I think this was part of her warmth and gentleness and always making everyone feel welcome and special.) We reminisced and I shared with her that some of my fondest memories as a very little girl were in her studio. She was a wonderful woman and will live on in the memories all of the dancers share. Warm hugs to all of your family, Dorothy.

Dorothy was a huge part of my life in Mendham because she was a huge part of Elisabeth’s. She taught both girls but for Bib, only a catastrophic injury kept her from following the road Dorothy showed her-one a dancer follows.
Yes, she taught dance but she instilled both girls with rhythm and Bib with confidence. I offer sympathy to Dorothy’s family and the little girls who will not grow up with Mrs. del Guercio cheering them on.
Thank you, Dorothy, for your friendship and for the gifts you gave my girls. God be with you and your family.

When didn't I know Dottie? From the time she moved to Mendham, I knew a kindred spirit. We had many laughs, conversations, fun times. My daughters both had the pleasure of taking dance lessons with her - and I was always amazed by what she was able to create from the lessons in her basement! They became full-fledged shows on the Hilltop School's stage. She always laughed at my saying that - but it was so true.
She was a remarkable, lovely person - andI am so glad to have known her.
Condolences and fond memories to her family -
Love,
Judie Friedlander

I first met Dorothy years ago when my son Eric was in her all boys class during elementary school. He debuted on stage as a California Raisin. In middle school he took swing dance classes with his schoolmates. A few months ago I called her about adult tap classes for myself and we had a great conversation. Dorothy was an inspirational and well respected woman of Mendham. She will be missed❤️

Of all the people that I ever met in Mendham, Dorothy Delguercio made the most impression on me during my years of growing up. She literally was a servant of the love of God bringing the love of God to a hurting and broken teenager, through the vehicle of dance. I started dancing in her studio when I was 13 years old. I would do babysitting jobs and save the money to take the dancing lessons. I would walk from my home on Maple Avenue to her dance studio and just soak in these wonderful lessons where she taught us to dance and most importantly taught us about the joy. The joy she carried was a gift from God. She brought that joy and she infused it into my life. Any of the heartaches, brokenness or hurts that I had coming to her dance studio, this joy overcame all my brokenness. I started to love dance. Dance became one of my main focuses of my high school years. I danced with Dorothy Dugger in her studio and her recitals for the next 6 years and enjoyed every minute of it. Such a beautiful person, such a wonderful lady, such a great example. In my life if there's anybody who I have tried to exemplify, it has been Dorothy Delguercio. This gift of dance that she gave me was so contagious I have found other places to share the gift of dance, with children, with youth groups and with my community. I will continue to do so, because this dance language that she taught me, this language of joy and love. Thank you for the gift of this joy and thank you for the gift of your life and the gifts you shared with others. You will always be loved and always feel close to us. May you dance on the streets of gold with all those that you love and heaven. And may you know that we will be thinking about you almost every day with such fond memories. Thank you for your life and thank you for the gift of joy and dance. Andrea Hartzell Glass
