Obituary of Regina M. Forsythe

Regina M Forsythe died May 31, 2011 at Morristown Memorial Hospital following a long Illness. She was 80. Born in Blooming Grove, PA to William Cowie and Elizabeth Hazen, she lived in Chester NJ for many years before moving to Gladstone in 1981. She was the Safety Coordinator for Simmons Precision in Chester for 15 years before she retired in 1992. Prior to working at Simmons she worked at Dr. Speigel's and Dr. Migliaccio's offices in the Chester area. She also owned The Wee House Floral Shop in Chester Twp. Jeannie was a 50 year Member of the Chester First Aid Squad, as well as the Chester Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, and a 20 year member of the Peapack Gladstone First Aid Squad. In addition, for years she taught many first aid courses for the American Red Cross, the NJ First Aid Council, and she taught EMT-A through the state. Her training of first aid members and police officers around the state, as well as local girl scout leaders and community members, resulted in a safer community for all. In addition. Jeannie was the Co-Founder of the Chester Girls Softball League in the early 70's and coached the traveling team for many years. She was a past board member and volunteer for the Chester Police Athletic Association for many years as well. Her family will remember her as a kind and genial person, who always wore a smile, and was loved by all. She was very giving and community minded, and she possessed a creative nature that always offered beauty to behold. Survivors include her husband Herbert C. Forsythe of Gladstone, one son Lawrence Thomson with wife Romaine, of Jefferson Twp.; two daughters, Jeanne Burd with husband Lon, of Lebanon, NJ and Dr. Maureen Stivala with husband Robert, of Bethlehem, PA, one step son Herbert C. Forsythe Jr., of Long Valley, and two step daughters Rebecca Petty with husband Brad, of Hardwick, NJ, and Elizabeth Forsythe of Octon, Mass. She is also survived by one brother William Cowie of Monroe, CT, one sister Catherine Higgins of Newton, NJ, 11 grand children and 5 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Her sister Elizabeth Manning and her brother Robert Cowie pre-deceased her. Memorial visitation will be held on Friday June 10, 2011 from 7 to 9 pm at the Bailey Funeral Home, 176 Main St., Peapack. Funeral Service Saturday June 11, at 11am at the Peapack Reformed Church, Gladstone. Interment will follow immediately in the DeGaetta Memorial Garden at the church.
