Obituary of Richard Ernest Brede

Richard  Ernest  (Dick) Brede, loving husband and father passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at the age of 87.

Richard was born on October 21, 1931, grew up in South Ozone Park, Queens and graduated from John Adams High School.  After receiving a business degree from St. John’s University he served stateside in the Army during the Korean War and then began a 40 year career with General Electric in Sales and Marketing.

Through his work with GE, Richard and his family lived in West Hempstead, NY, Arlington Heights, IL and Chagrin Falls, OH before moving to Mendham in 1975.

Richard was known for his strong faith and served as a Deacon at Hilltop Presbyterian Church in Mendham, sang in the choir and led the men’s Bible Study for many years. 

Richard was a longtime member at the Silver Bay Association on Lake George, NY and spent many wonderful summers there with his family.  He also had a love of music and sang with the Germania Park Chorus as well serving in various capacities for Opera at Florham.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Helen Woltmann Brede, their son Robert Brede and daughter Patricia Mangino, three grandchildren, Sarah Brede Legas, Ben Brede and Emma Mangino, and a great-grandson Wyatt Legas.

Visitation will be held at Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Road, Mendham, on Monday, March 4, 2019 from 4-7pm.  A Funeral Service will be held at Hilltop Presbyterian Church, 20 Hilltop Road, Mendham on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at 11am.  Interment will follow at Hilltop Cemetery.
