I've not seen or heard of Mike since we were all kids in junior high school and high school. I can honestly say I do remember Mike with a smile, as he always was friendly, polite and smiling. Mike seems to have had a wonderfully fulfilled life with a loving family. One couldn't wish for more.
My sympathies to you all.

Mike and I were close friends when young teenagers and stayed friends until his university years. After that we got busy in careers. We knew each other from church and hung around with a bunch from there. We went to camp Kwasind, snowmobiled and water skied around Lake Muskoka, made about 4 or 5 road trips to Nova Scotia. We did a lot of unclever things together. One trip to N.S. We went through Quebec at around 80-90 mph because his Monza Spyder had caught on fire and we had to make a ferry reservation 3 hours later than when we intended to leave so we had borrow his mother's Buick Century. Mike crashed the Century into the guard rail in New England on the way home because he fell asleep. It was a fun trip. We spent a lot of time in McDonalds in those days. We went to Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp, The Who, and Toto concerts and destroyed our hearing. We played hockey on Friday nights, neither of us much good. We had a lot of fun together. Mike was a great friend.
I will never forget Mike or the good times we had. I pray that God will comfort all of you.

I met Mike many years ago when I joined the Bank of Nova Scotia shortly after University. Mike had already been at the Bank a few years and very graciously welcomed me to the trading desk that he had quickly become an integral part of. Later I followed Mike to New York and worked with him there a few years before he left to continue his successful career at Commerz Bank. Over the years I had lost touch with Mike but I often look back fondly at our shared experiences. Mike was a uniquely optimistic man. Nothing kept him down for long, he thought big and had the ability and drive to realize what he imagined possible. Purds will be missed by his many friends at the Bank of Nova Scotia and in the Financial Markets around the world. Our sincere condolences to Kerri and the kids,

I was saddened to hear the news of Mike's passing. I knew he was battling cancer and thought he had turned the corner in his struggle with it. I ask his family to please accept my condolences. I was a colleague of Mike's at Saudi Investment Bank in Riyadh and was glad to call him a friend of mine. I wish the best for Mike's family in this time of ordeal and anguish and pray they can find some solace in their time of grief. Most sincerely,
Tim Minasian

I just learned this awful news. I haven’t seen Mike and Kerri in many years but Will never forget his sense of fun, his booming voice greeting me, his friendship, Canadian-ness, intelligence, good and big heartedness. I am heartbroken for his beautiful family (and for me too having missed all these years!). I wish I were with all of you at the service to say goodbye xxxxxx

I will miss Michael badly. He was a beacon of joy and happiness for many of us in the Riyadh expat community. He was also an insightful leader for change and improvement in the bank where we worked (the Saudi Investment Bank). I really enjoyed his partnership in the office. And in evening discussions, he always had a cheerful smile and friendly comment. It was obvious he loved his family and cherished his returns to New Jersey. I am sorry I am out of the NYC region today hence unfortunately cannot join the celebration of his life this afternoon. My prayers are for him and his family

I had the privilege of working with Mike at SAIB in Riyadh, Rarely have I met an individual who was a forthcoming and pleasant to work with. It has been my great honor to call him not just my boss but my friend and to have shared experiences and work in the investment world. I had looked forward to spending time together in Florida after he "beat" the cancer. We had just recently corresponded about investment philosophy and portfolio strategies. My condolences to all.

I met Mike (Purds) when I arrived at my first Saracens training session in Sunnybrook Park in August 1988. Although we didn't know each other well when we were at Western (we both played rugby for Western), Mike was welcoming, engaging and very friendly - he helped my transition to big city Toronto from small city Alberta by letting me know I was amongst friends. I heard the news from Chris Hoskins personally and shed a tear in Mike's memory.
I'm glad I got a chance to see and spend a little time with him this past June in Toronto.
My thoughts go out to Carrie, Jack, Julie and Gavin on their loss - a truly great guy in my memories..
