Obituary of John Bodine Benjamin
John Bodine Benjamin died on April 27, 2011 at the age of 62. The son of Whitfield
J. Benjamin and Ella A. Benjamin, he was raised in the Borough of Peapack-Gladstone, attended the local elementary school and graduated from Bernards High School on Bernardsville.
Following his high school graduation, John enlisted in the U.S. Army and achieved the
Rank of SP4 Transportation Specialist. His military assignments included service in Thailand and Cambodia during the Vietnam War in fulfilling his responsibilities of transporting supplies to our U.S. combat troops. He was honorably discharged after three years of enlisted service, followed by membership in the American Legion Post #12 in Somerville, and the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 688.
For several years John was employed by Apgar Bros. Trucking Co. and then for nearly 30 years was employed as a machine operator and assembler for various manufacturing companies including Johns-Manville, Affiliated Manufacturers Inc. and the Egan Davis-Standard division of Crompton Corporation.
Survivors include a sister, Bernice A. Coop, of Peapack; a niece, Sarah E. Ambler, and grand nephew, Benjamin C. Ambler, both of Bethlehem Township, Pa.
A memorial service celebrating the life of John Benjamin will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 11:00am at the Peapack Reformed Church, 224 Main St., Gladstone, NJ.
