Obituary of Alan Lane Harris

Alan Harris died peacefully on July 4th, 2018.  He was 94 years old.   

Born in East Orange, he had lived in Livingston, Bernardsville, and Basking Ridge before moving to Heath Village in Hackettstown, NJ in 2005.  

Alan graduated from East Orange High School in 1941 and initially worked for the California Texas Oil Company in New York City.  In 1942, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, serving in World War II as a Staff Sergeant with VMSB 331, 4th Marine Air Wing in the South Central Pacific Theatre.  He was discharged in 1945.     

In 1948, he married Jean Taylor, who predeceased him in 2003.  They were married 55 years and enjoyed much travel in the USA, Europe, and the Pacific.   

He worked for Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in many sales roles, retiring as a regional manager of wholesale account commercial sales in 1983.  

He is survived by his son Alan and wife Dolores of Bonita Springs, Florida; son Andrew and his wife Rosemary of Colts Neck, New Jersey; and son William and his wife Patricia of Gladstone, New Jersey; and seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  He is also survived by longtime friend, Ms. Andrea Rand.      

A private funeral service will be held by the family.  Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Caldwell, NJ.   In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center www.mskcc.org.
