Barbara Moro

Obituary of Barbara T Moro

Barbara Theresa Moro passed away at Morristown Medical Center after her battle with cancer on March 17, 2018. She was 76.

Born in Boonton, NJ to Italian immigrants Amadio & Rose Venturini, Barbara was raised to be one tough lady. This was evident throughout her life, during her younger roller derby days and her time as a Special Officer with the Mendham Boro Police Dept, where she always hit high marks at the gun range during qualifying. She was so proud to be a part of an organization so important and to be part of the Mendham community for over 50 years.

Barbara had a softer side too, which was evident in the open door policy for friends, family, nieces and nephews and even her childrens’ friends. They all knew they could sit with her at the kitchen table where secrets were kept and problems were solved, all with an open mind and open heart.

Barbara was the cool mom of the neighborhood. During her daughter's many parties, it wasn't unheard of to have many kids sitting in the living room with Mrs. Moro chatting it up.... and what mom do you know would allow her drum-playing son and his heavy metal band practice in the basement whenever they wanted? She welcomed them with open arms and the house rocked to the rafters.

She loved Mickey Mouse, the Wizard of Oz, but most of all, she loved her dogs; Bear, Wolfie and most recently her grand-dog Cookie.

One cannot talk of Barbara without discussing her love of the ocean. She loved dolphins, whales, and anything else associated with the sea. Collecting seashells was one of her favorite activities. She always said that the ocean was where she wanted her final resting place to be, and so it shall.

Barbara will be missed by so many - and she would say it is okay to cry, but not for long.  Remember her with a smile. Find a seashell on the beach or pick one up at TJ Maxx (her favorite store) and put it on your shelf. Every time you look at it, think of her - that is how she would want to be remembered, with a seashell and a smile.

Barbara is survived by her son Michael Moro, his wife Katie and her 3 grandchildren Matthew, Brian and Madeline Moro; her daughter Lori Sims, her husband Brad and her grand-dog Cookie; her niece Suzanne Mahler and many other nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; her Brother Frank Venturini and her deceased siblings Joseph Venturini, Mario Venturini and Mary Anne Gratacos; and of course her beloved friends.

Barbara's family will receive friends and family for a celebration of life at Bailey Funeral Home located at 8 Hilltop Rd. in Mendham on Saturday, April 7th from 1 – 4pm, with a service at 3:30 PM.

Please do not send flowers, we ask that instead you support the wonderful rescue organization that brought Cookie into her life. Barbara spent every single day and night with Cookie since she was rescued 3 years ago. Cookie brought her so much joy and laughter, and we know Barbara would have absolutely been thrilled to be honored with donations in her name. Donations came be made to Northstar Pet Rescue, P.O. Box 284, Boonton, NJ 07005. www.northstarpets.org. Thank you.
