Obituary of Edward Hudson Mulcahy

MORRISTOWN - Edward Hudson Mulcahy died at Morristown Memorial Hospital on November 6, 2010. He was 88. Born in Jersey City on June 1, 1922 to the late Daniel Joseph and Hannah (Hudson) Mulcahy, he was a resident of Bayonne for over 56 years before moving to Morristown 18 months ago. Mr. Mulcahy played minor league baseball for the Wauseka Cubs, a farm team for the New York Yankees. Mr. Mulcahy was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army from 1940 until 1943. He was an account executive with AT&T in Hudson County for over 45 years before his retirement in 1983. During his career with AT&T, Mr. Mulcahy was instrumental in having the 911 emergency telephone system developed and installed in Hudson County. Mr. Mulcahy was a member of the Lions Club of Jersey City, and served as president from 1970-1972. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America NY/NJ Chapter, the Elks Lodge of Manasquan, and the American Legion of Denville. He was very proud to be an associate member of the Hudson County Chiefs of Police Association. He was a lifelong Mets and Giants fan, as well as an avid fan of Boston College football. Predeceased by his wife Madeline (Manno) in 2005, Mr. Mulcahy is survived by his daughter Marianne Mulcahy Solomon and her husband Elliott of Mendham, and three grandchildren, Gregory, Alexandra, and Peter. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday, November 11, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's R. C. Church on West Main Street in Mendham at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at the Mendham Hilltop Cemetery on Hilltop Road in Mendham.
