Obituary of William Lincoln Harvey

CHESTER - William L. Harvey, Sr. died suddenly at Morristown Memorial Hospital on Thursday, November 3, 2010. He was 80. Born in Ocean City, NJ to the late James H. and Lydia Mae(Norton) Harvey on February 12, 1930, he was a resident of Chester for over 50 years. Mr. Harvey was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954, serving as an Ensign as an aviator during the Korean War. Mr. Harvey was a Space Engineer for Bell Labs of Whippany for over 30 years before his retirement. He was a 50-year member of Prospect Masonic Lodge #24 in Chester, becoming a Master Mason in 1959. He served as Worshipful Master in 1966, and as the Lodge Secretary from 1967 to present. He served on Grand Staff in 1974 as a Grand Chaplain, and served as District Ritual Instructor for the 11th Masonic District from 1993 to 1997. He was chairman of the NJ Masonic Blood Bank for over 25 years, was the co-founder of the Masonic Secretaries Association of NJ, and was a past patron for Chester/Starlight Chapter 175/107 Order of Eastern Star. He is survived by his wife of nearly 51 years, Gwyn; his son William L. Harvey, Jr. of Chester; his daughter Sheri Harvey of Flanders; his brother James H Harvey III of Ocean City, NJ; and several nieces and nephews.
