Obituary of Betsy M. Phillips

Betsy Vliet Phillips of Gladstone, NJ passed away on August 11, 2010. Betsy was born September 20, 1924 in Gladstone. She was the daughter of Harold Vliet and Dorothy Prior Vliet. Harold was the owner of the Gladstone Hotel until 1959. The Vliet family has been in Somerset County since the 1700's. Betsy graduated from Bernards High School in 1942. Betsy married Edward Phillips of Middlesex, NJ in 1947 and moved to Warren Twp, NJ where they raised 5 children. Betsy and Edward moved back to Gladstone in 1982. Betsy enjoyed traveling and was active in the Happy Rockers group in Gladstone. She was predeceased by her husband in 2003. She leaves her children Robert Phillips of Somerville, NJ, Barbara Gelpke of Peapack, William Phillips of Branchburg, James Phillips of Rock Hill, SC, and Susan Phillips of San Francisco, CA. She will also be deeply missed by her eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4pm at the Bailey Funeral H Ome, 176 Misn St., Peapack. Funeral Service Monday 10am in the Funeral Home. Interment Peapack Union Cemetery.
