Obituary of Peter L. Campisi

CHESTER TWP - Peter L. Campisi died at Holly Manor Nursing Home in Mendham on Saturday, July 24, 2010 after a long illness. He was 75. Born in Newark NJ on October 24, 1934 Peter grew up in Maplewood and graduated from Columbia High School in 1952, where he served as student body president and varsity basketball captain. He attended Brown University and was the starting point guard on the 1955 and 1956 varsity basketball squads, spearheading a memorable upset victory over Princeton in 1956. After graduation, Peter was employed by IBM as one of their leading sales representatives before founding his own data processing company, PLC Data, specializing in accounts receivable services to many of North Jersey's private golf and sporting clubs. Peter lived most of his adult life in Livingston. A sports enthusiast, Peter served as president of the Livingston Big "L" Booster Club, as well as several terms on the Livingston Recreation Committee and as a Livingston Little League Board Member. He also served several years as a volunteer baseball, basketball, and football coach in the Livingston recreation and travel programs. In 2003, Peter was fortunate to have received a heart transplant, allowing him to continue with his endeavors, the favorite of which was to attend the sporting events of his three grandchildren, where he was the most vocal fan of their teams and their teammates. Peter is survived by his childhood sweetheart and loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Marjorie "Mitzi" (Schneider) Campisi; two sons, Gregory Campisi of Mendham Twp., and Jeffrey Campisi and his wife Betsy of Chester Twp.; his brother Joseph and his wife Jean Campisi of New Providence, NJ; and three cherished grandchildren, Kyle, Christopher, and Jamie Campisi. Please note the change in location for the Funeral Mass. It has been moved from St. Joseph's R. C. Church in Mendham to St. Lawrence Church in Chester. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 from 7-9 PM; and on Wednesday July 28, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Lawrence the Martyr R. C. Church, 375 Main Street, Chester, NJ 07945 on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at 10:30 AM. Entombment will follow Mass at the mausoleum at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Mt. Airy Road, Basking Ridge. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Peter L. Campisi are requested by the family to the Sharing Network Foundation, Attn: Marsha Kefer, 691 Central Avenue, New Providence, NJ 07974.
