Obituary of Fay West McEwan

Fay W. McEwan died on July 5, 2010 at Victoria Mews Assisted Living in Boonton. She was 83. Born in Glens Falls, NY, she attended Bennington College where she majored in music then moved to NYC where she was secretary to the President of CBS Television for 10 years. After marrying, Fay moved to Brookside NJ where she lived for 45 years with her beloved husband John and daughter Sarah. Fay was active at Brookside Community Church and served as the director of both the Adult and Children's Choirs and sang in the adult choir herself for 30 years. She also founded and directed "The Brookside Belles," a local women's chorus that is still active today. She will be remembered as one of the most positive people to bless our lives. Fay's sense of humor and quirky personality, as well as her compassion for others made her one of the most lovable, loyal, supportive, unique individuals to grace this earth. Fay was the beloved wife of the late John D. McEwan who died in 1991. Fay was the loving mother of Sarah McEwan Riffel and her husband, Bill of New Providence, NJ. She was the loving grandmother of Jamie Riffel of New Providence. She is also survived by one brother, Jack West and his wife, Gail West of Wayland, Mass., her niece Susan Fay West, her nephew Philip West and wife, Joanne, her nephew James West and wife Naomi, grand nieces Gitalia and Carinna West. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 - 7 pm at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd., Mendham. Funeral Service is 11 am Saturday at Brookside Community Church, Brookside, NJ. Interment at Hilltop Cemetery, Mendham. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the "Fay McEwan Memorial Fund" which will be used to start and maintain a music therapy and pet therapy program for Victoria Mews Assisted Living, where Fay resided the last two years.
