Larry,
I remember when we ran against each other for Senior Class President for the class of '74 along with Danny Rutherford. What a class we had! I will never forget you coming up to me after the announcement and looking at me straight in the eyes after everyone thought you should have won and said "Nice race". Yes, Larry, there was always something about you I liked!

You will be missed by so many friends and family. There are so many memories I have of you, all that bring a big smile to my face and make me laugh. One in particular is when Baker and I first came down to Alabama. That trip was very interesting. As you know I am no longer allowed to read the map for him. Who knew Ohio was not a state we needed to go through. Or the car accident we had after I made fun of the Vulcan neck pincher. You brought so much love and fun into my life. I will miss you so very much. Jr., I leave you with a quote from a Bob Dylan song: “He was a friend of mine every time I think about him now Lord I just can't keep from crying, cause he was a friend of mine “

I first met Larry when I was working for former U.S. Senator Charles Percy (D-IL)in the 1980's promoting the use of corn ethanol, which was then called gasohol. We supported the efforts of New Energy of Indiana in South Bend to get Loan Guarantees to get its biomass refinery plant start, even though it was an adjoining state. I next meet him about 26 years later when I went to work for the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy and the Department of Energy. It was the same happy, optimistic, and committed Larry. Like many of us, he was a child of the two oil shocks of the 1970's that turned our lives upside down. He was an ethusiastic volunteer in the Army to lessen this nation's dependency on foreign oil. The battle is not yet won, but Larry helped move us closer to our goal. We will miss his infectious ethusiasm and optimism.

To The Loved Ones that are left behind: I helped Larry with his blackberry here at the office and we became friends. We talked about many things including motorcycles. He was always smiling even when he was under deadlines. I was saddened to hear of his sudden passing and still cannot comprehend how such a wonderful, friendly person could be gone too soon. We will all miss him dearly. To his family and friends, I offer my sympathy. I hope that someone honors Larry by making sure that someone does a motorcycle tribute with his bike. He would have loved that. larry will surely be missed.

Larry was a valued friend and colleague. He was a good mentor to me in many ways and helped me understand the realities of our business.
He always provided a chuckle or two about how our business operated and kept me thinking about how to do better.
Larry was so personable to me and accommodating to my needs when I had a recent family loss.
My prayers and thoughts have and continue to be with his family.

Heartfelt sympathies to all the members of the Russo family, who were my "backyard neighbors" many years ago. I was so very impressed with Larry's personal accomplishments when we spoke at a "recent" BHS reunion. Peace be with you.

Dear Sweet Larry,
Our prayers are with you and your family. A vision that I will cherish always is that of you in your black leather jacket sitting ON TOP of your desk in our high school classes just waiting for a debate of some kind to show up. And that smile and light hearted chuckle of yours will surely be missed. There are no stop signs in heaven...ride that bike of yours to glory. Love, Jeanne

I am 10 years old and I never really knew Mr.Larry, but my mom tells me stories of her high school days so I hear a lot about him. I met Mr.Larry once at my cousin, Heidi's Beauty and the Beast performance. He took lots of good pictures and made a CD of all the pictures, and my Aunt Janice sent it to me so I have something to cherish.
I am daughter of Jeanne Shultz. Good luck in Heaven Mr.Larry.
Love, Elke

I have found myself sobbing at the loss of another friend gone too soon! I am no stranger to death and the finality it brings, having lost my mother at 18 and so many other family members to follow in that path early in life. But tonight it hit hard, and through the tears one thought kept coming to me..."you are not alone", " They are not alone".
I can only listen to that voice and find comfort in knowing our Lord is there waiting for them, welcoming us to another place.
Larry was a wonderful and gentle soul, always ready to make another feel at ease. You will be missed Larry and I beleive , having lived for this long without the physical presense of those so dear, you are at peace and maybe , just maybe, looking down on us once in a while, knowing you are loved here too.

Larry,
I did not know you well at BHS, but always admired your strength and intelligence. You seemed like someone who would go far. i was so impressed to see what you have some with your life's work. Amazing!!! I wish I had known sooner about your expertise in alternative fuels, you would have been invaluable to me as that is what I am currently doing my thesis on. Your passing is a loss to a movement that needs all of the minds and hearts of those involved and yours will be sorely missed by us all. Be at peace. Condolences and prayers to all of those close to you.

To Mr. and Mrs. Russo, and all of Larry's family, your son Larry is dearly missed by all of his friends at DOE. His passing leaves a large hole here. Larry put his heart into everything he did, and wanted only to be able to contribute and make a difference to improve the lives of those around him. His dedication and commitment to the pursuits of renewable fuels was a lifelong passion that he shared with all colleagues across the country. He is and will always be dearly missed. I consider myself fortunate to count him as a friend.

I went to the University of Dayton with Larry. We were on the same floor freshmen year. Larry was a blast! I haven't seen him since 1978. I spoke with him before our 30 year reunion and he was still the same guy. Even 30 years later I miss him. Peace Larry

Larry, you were one of my closest friends, and one of my favorite people. We met in the 80s, and our lives intersected many times over the years, both personally and professionally. My kids will always remember how well you treated them for Notre Dame football weekends when you lived in South Bend. I'll remember you driving all night in a snow storm to make my New Year's party. I loved your intellect, your drive, your practical approach to life, and of course, that smile, available always and to everyone.
Fair well, my brother.

I just learn today about Larry's passing. We worked on many project together and Larry's hard work will be miss by all those of us that he touched during his life. I had tried to call earlier this year to find that his phone was disconnected. I had given his name to a friend as a expert in the field and he found that Larry had died. I know that he is still working on ethanol project somewhere and will be missed by all.
