Obituary of Allin Karl Dittmann

Allin K. Dittmann died peacefully on Sunday March 21, 2010 at his home in Long Valley. He was 76. Born in Miami, FL, he grew up in Mendham, NJ, studied abroad at the University of Goettingen, Germany for 12 years where he earned his Masters degree in History before returning and moving to Long Valley some 40 years ago. Mr. Dittmann was a Historian by trade but worked at the Dover Armory in Dover, NJ for some 18 years before retiring. Prior to that he worked at Silver Burdett and Ginn in Morristown, NJ where he met and married Ruth Haas. He will be remembered as a humanitarian, an intellectual, lover of books, and distrustful of Republicans. He was predeceased by his wife Ruth in 2008. Survivors include his only son Mark Dittmann of Long Valley. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 12 Noon at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd., Mendham.
