Obituary of James E Davidson

James Earle Davidson passed away at Morristown Memorial Hospital on Thursday, February 1, 2018. He was 83 years old. Jim was born in New York City on June 7, 1934 to Earle Proudfit Davidson and Julia (McKelvey) Davidson. He grew up and was a resident of Ridgewood, NJ where he was a three-sport athlete at Ridgewood High School before moving to Mendham, NJ in 1966. Jim was a graduate of Colgate University where he starred for the basketball and golf teams. He also proudly served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force before attending Columbia Law School in New York City. He went on to establish his own firm Farrell, Curtis, Carlin and Davidson and then was a long time partner at Schenk, Price, Smith and King and was one of the leaders of its Trusts and Estates department.

He was an avid golfer and had been a member of Ridgewood Country Club where he won three Club Championships and then Mendham Golf and Tennis Club where he garnered six Club Championships. He also served as a Board Member and President of Mendham Golf and Tennis Club. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Mendham. He was involved in the youth athletics in Mendham for many years and loved coaching basketball and baseball. He could be found watching his children and later his grandchildren participate in many different sports and activities and was a fixture at all local youth sporting events. 

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years Jane MacKenzie Davidson. He is survived by his three children, Duncan Davidson of New Berlin, NY, Earle Davidson and his wife Ali of Nashville, TN, Julia Hassan and her husband George of Mendham, NJ; four dearly loved grandchildren, Aidan and Gavin Hassan, Griffin and Greenlee Davidson; sister, Jean Davidson of Menlo Park, CA and many other loving family members and friends. 

Jim's Life Celebration will include a visitation on Monday, February 5, 2018 from 2pm - 4pm and 7pm - 9pm at Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Road, Mendham, NJ 07945, www.baileyfuneral.com. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at 10:30am at St. Joseph's Church in Mendham. In lieu of flowers, the Family requests donations to the Boys and Girls Club of Newark, 1 Avon Avenue, Newark, NJ 07108, www.bgcn.org.
