I was so saddened to read this. Mary and I worked together at Arthur E. Smith Insurance Agency from 1988 to 1990. In those two years we developed more a mother daughter relationship that lasted until we lost contact...other than the yearly Christmas card...around early 2000. She was one of the best people that our good Lord put in my life and I will hold that close to my heart always.
Rest peacefully sweet friend <3 My prayers and condolences to the entire Hughes family.

Mom Hughes (as I always called her) was such an important person in my life, and she was one of the most compassionate, easy going, and generous people that I have ever known. She lit up whenever she was around a child, and she always made time for them. She was happiest when she had a little one in her lap.
She taught me how to relax as a mom (I was nervous!), and her calm demeanor and years of wisdom being around children helped me immensely. Jillian (her "west coast granddaughter") was always so happy when she was going to see Grandma!!! Grandma and her other grandchildren created "Under the Sea" decorations in her basement, read together, and in general just had fun with them.
I will miss our calls, our visits, and all of the love that she gave to all of us. She has been a great influence in my life, and I was so lucky and blessed to have known her.
Condolences to all of the family.
Suzanne

I extend my condolences to the family and friends of my cousin, Mary Alice (Fitzgerald) Hughes. Her father, Bernard, and my father, George, were brothers.
I am especially grateful that Mary and her siblings were able to visit my father in his house, the same house where Bernard grew up, and the same house where I now live, in Holyoke, MA.
Mary Alice had a strong sense of family which was inspiring to so many who knew her. Her intellect and social skills made her a great resource and steadying influence for her family, friends, and for many with whom she interacted.
I feel so proud to have known her.
I made a special visit today to the grave of her grandparents, aunt, and uncles, in her honor. She has joined her relatives in heaven !

Being apart of our amazing crew, we have learned that losing a loved one is part of life. As my mom would say, it sucks! (You may be surprised that Aunt Ann would let loose like that!lol) I am proud to say that I was named after my mom's wonderful sister! She will be missed by so many and definitely by me. I have said it before, but her eyes will always come to mind when I think of her. She talked, but better, she listened! Stories, I have many. I am thankful for everyone of them: Englishtown!, chips and deli meat for lunch on the run, Rehoboth Beach, Thanksgiving in Bound Brook, and so much more! see you all at the celebration of her life!

Please accept my condolences on the death of Mary Alice. She had a long life and what seems to be a full and pleasant life.
I am happy that we were able to get together as a family back in 1991.
My best wishes to all her friends and family.
