Obituary of John R. Jaycox

John R. Jaycox died peacefully on August 25, 2015 at his home in Mendham. He was 86. Born in Englewood, NJ he lived in Chatham NJ before moving to Mendham 51 years ago. He served in the Air Force as a 1st lieutenant during Korea from 1951-1955. He was a navigator and radar operator and was involved in 25 missions. He was a graduate of Colgate University and attended Law School at the University of Virginia. Mr. Jaycox worked for New Jersey Bell Telephone from 1956 until 1976 as the sales business manager in in tariffs and regulatory department. In 1976 he transferred to the marketing department at AT&T. In 1982 he moved to National Carrier Exchange Assoc. in Parsippany before retiring in 1994. He enjoyed summering in Martha’s Vineyard where he enjoyed surf fishing , sailing, playing tennis and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Judith Buckley Jaycox of Mendham, three daughters Jill Jaycox of Somerville, NJ, Missy Herdman of Brookisde, NJ and Sarah Gaffney of Stroudsburg, PA. He is also survived by one brother Robin Jaycox of Hamilton NY and his 4 grandchildren Ryan, Owen, and Dylan Gaffney and Cameron Herdman. The family will receive friends on Thursday Sept. 3 from 10:30am until 12 noon at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd., Mendham followed by a funeral service at 12 noon in the funeral home.
