Obituary of Marianne C. McCann

Marianne C. McCann, age 82 and a Bernardsville resident for over 48 years, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2015. She was born Marianne C. Breslin, an only child, in Brooklyn, New York on December 4, 1932. She graduated from The Mary Louis Academy of Jamaica, New York in 1949 and The College of Saint Elizabeth of Convent Station, New Jersey in 1953. Marianne was the first college graduate in her family. She married Gerald F. McCann on October 2, 1954 and together they raised five sons, Michael, Peter, James, Paul, and Christopher. Once she had raised her family, Marianne went back to school to become a dietician. After course work at Rutgers University and an internship, she became a registered clinical dietician in 1992. Marianne worked at a number of hospitals in New Jersey, but spent most of her career in the Intensive Care Unit at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield, New Jersey until she retired in 2007. In her retirement, Marianne volunteered at Morristown Medical Center and at the semi-annual Visiting Nurse Association Rummage Sale. She loved to cook and participated in a local gourmet group. Marianne was also an avid reader and belonged to the Book Club at the Bernards Township Library in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. Surviving are Marianne's sons, Michael of Dudley, North Carolina, Peter and his wife Julie of Newton, New Jersey, Paul of Alpha, New Jersey and Christopher and his wife Rita of Bernardsville, New Jersey. Also surviving are granddaughter Corey and grandsons Matthew and Coleman. Marianne was predeceased by her son James in November 1999 and her husband Gerald in March 2004. Visitation is on Monday, April 6, 4 - 8 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, 176 Main Street, Peapack. The funeral mass is 10:30 AM on Tuesday, April 7 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Bernardsville.
