Sheri Ann Alexander Obituary

Sheri Ann Alexander, nee Becker, passed away on April 25, 2026.  She was 69 years old.

Born in Newark, New Jersey to Joan and Malcolm Becker, she grew up in Somerville and Bridgewater and graduated from Bridgewater-Raritan High School East in 1975.  Following her passion for music and performance, Sheri graduated from Berklee College of Music in 1979. She moved to New York City in 1981.  A life-long learner, Sheri also graduated from Baruch College with a degree in Accounting in 1990.

Sheri married the love of her life, Steve Alexander in 1991.  Steve and Sheri welcomed their daughter Samantha in 1999, who brought endless joy to her life.  After spending 22 years living in Manhattan, New York City, they moved to bucolic Mendham in 2003.  Sheri loved her home and life in Mendham, especially her backyard.  She performed occasionally at the Black Horse in Mendham and the Pittstown Inn. Sheri was involved as a Starlight Committee member for the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown.  The proceeds raised during their annual ball provided arts education funding to thousands of students.  She loved spending time in her Long Beach Island home with family and friends, where she was a member of the Haven Beach Club.

Early in her life, Sheri worked as a solo guitarist and singer in New Jersey and Manhattan for a number of years, performing at clubs like The Back Fence on Bleeker Street in the West Village.  She was then employed at Wertheim Schroeder and Chase Bank in their tax departments.  From 2007 until 2021, her love of playing guitar and singing led Sheri to teaching, fostering a love of music in her students at Gil St. Bernards School and, later, through private instruction.

Sheri is survived by her husband, Steve Alexander, daughter, Samantha, and sisters Marci Becker-Morelli (Ralph), and Wendi Becker Hoak (David).  She also leaves behind nieces Jessica Morelli (Chris Slazar), and Lili, nephews Leo, Brandon, and Ryan, along with many loving cousins.

Sheri was beloved by many people.  She had a kind and warm way about her.  She loved to spend time with everyone, playing guitar, singing, or just talking.  She met and kindled friendships with people from all over the world at numerous guitar camps over the years.  Sheri is greatly missed and will forever be remembered by all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Sheri’s name. Both the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown, NJ (https://secure.mayoarts.org/donate/i/donate) or the Lupus Research Alliance (https://give.lupusresearch.org/campaign/745284/donate ) in New York City were her strongest causes. She also supported many organizations that helped children around the world.
