Pietro J Cillo Obituary

Pietro J Cillo, affectionately known as "Pete", passed away peacefully at home on September 26, 2025.  He was 100 years young. Pete was born in Mendham, NJ to parents Antonio & Philomena (nee Del Bene) Cillo.

Pete found joy in family, friends and watching sports on TV, his Giants and Yankees.  He was a lifetime member of St. Joseph's Church, where he was an usher.  He was also a lifetime member of the Pastime Club in Mendham.  He coached his sons little league teams, was an avid bowler and golfer.  He loved to travel with his wife Alice.

At the age of 18 Pete was drafted into the Army Air Corp and stationed in England, Belgium and Germany.  He took great pride in taking his wife Alice to the many Army Air Corp reunions that were held all across the country.  He was well known by family and friends for the Labor Day Cookouts he and Alice hosted every year.  It grew to be a family tradition, but his greatest joy was becoming a grandfather.

Pete was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Alice M Cillo (nee Carey) in 2013 and his daughter Alice “Missy” Cillo in 2014. He is survived by his children Pete (Mary) Cillo, John (Janet) Cillo, and Philomena (Daniel) Scarpone, his granddaughter Ashton (Ed) Galuska , brothers Jimmy (Gerry - deceased) Cillo, Anthony (Dolores) Cillo, Dr. Joseph (Carmela - deceased) Cillo and his sister-in-law Veronica (George - deceased) Jones.  He was also predeceased by Marie and Peter Pennimpede, Ann and Joseph Fondaco, Rose and Sal Grievo, Theresa and Jack of Smith, Aniello and Casey Cillo, Philip and Susan Carey, William and Lucy Carey, Vince and Peggy Carey, Edward and Roberta Carey, Rev. Msgr. Leo Carey, Helen and Nicola Spano.

Visitation will be held from 4-8pm on Monday, September 29, 2025 at Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Road, Mendham.  A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30am on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at St. Joseph Church, 8 West Main Street.  Interment to follow at St. Joseph Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Pietro’s memory may be made to the Mendham First Aid Squad in Mendham, NJ or the Market Street Mission in Morristown, NJ.
