Obituary of Irene Maria Vargo

Irene Maria Inacio Vargo, 88, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025.  

Irene was born in Carteret, NJ on April 18, 1937.  She married Stephen Vargo in 1959 and they raised their family together in Whippany, NJ.  In later years, Irene enjoyed living in the communities of Mendham and Toms River.

Irene was a devoted mother, Nursing Aide, and Weichert Realtor.  She was an enthusiastic and determined person with a generous heart and strong faith.  As a gifted artist, she delighted in donating her time decorating her churches in Whippany, Mendham, and Toms River with her flower arrangements and banners for weekly services, holidays, and special events.  She enjoyed making art, singing, playing BINGO, and swimming in the ocean.  She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Irene is survived by her children Renee Pierson (Neill), Christine Donlon (Sean), James Vargo; her eight cherished grandchildren:  Katherine, Stephanie, and Christina Pierson, Jack and Chelsea Donlon, Joshua, James Jr. and Julie Vargo; and her great grandchild, Christopher Simmons.  She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stephen Vargo, her parents, Anthony and Bronislava Inacio, her two sisters and two brothers.

A private service will be held for her family.  Burial will follow at Hilltop Cemetery in Mendham, NJ.  In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you partake in some of the activities Irene enjoyed:  say a prayer; enjoy making some art; give back to your community; and play some BINGO!
