Obituary of John D Deighan

John "Jack" Daniel Deighan, 94, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025.

He was born in Morristown NJ and raised in Mendham. One of his fondest boyhood memories was being part of Boy Scout Troop 1 of Mendham under Scoutmaster Bill Hillcourt, who founded the troop and wrote the official Boy Scout handbook.

John was a graduate of the Morristown High School class of 1948. He served in the U.S. Army in a tank unit in Italy as part of the Trieste United States Troops (TRUST) from 1951 to 1953 and was later employed as an engineer for the VA in Lyons, NJ. He was a member of the Pastime Club, active volunteer with the Mendham Fire Department for over 60 years, and a longtime member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Mendham where he served as an usher.

Jack was the son of the late John and Margaret (nee Kirkpatrick) Deighan. He was predeceased by his wife Jacqueline and his brother Bill. He is survived by his son John (fiancé Sheila Blaine) of Long Valley and many nieces, nephew and cousins.

Visitation will be held at Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Road, Mendham on Saturday, March 15th from 9-11 am followed by an 11am Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church Chapel, W Main Street Mendham. Interment immediately following at St. Joseph Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pastime Club, 3 Hilltop Road, Mendham, NJ 07945 or the Mendham Borough Fire Department, 24 E Main Street, Mendham, NJ 07945.
